Overview

Transition to Adulthood workshops are delivered by Parenting Special Children and Parent Forum leads from Reading, West Berkshire and Wokingham.

Topic: Preparing for Adulthood.

Speaker: Helen Mansfield, IASS Advisor.

The workshop is funded by the Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and Berkshire West Integrated Care Board (BOB ICB) and are provided as part of the Berkshire West Autism and ADHD Support Service in partnership with Autism Berkshire.

Event outline

Aims:

  • To equip parents/carers to enable them to navigate the transition to adulthood and to support their young person with knowledge, skills and confidence.
  • Opportunity to connect with parent forum leads in your local area who have local knowledge of transition provision.
  • Opportunity to meet with other parent/carers in your local area who are navigating the transition to adulthood.

Ruth Pearse

Ruth has over 18 years of experience as a CEO in the charitable sector. She is deeply passionate about supporting parents and carers at all stages of their children’s lives, recognizing the critical importance of providing holistic support throughout their journey. Ruth has developed a reputation for her ability to foster and maintain strong partnerships within the charity sector. She understands the value of collaboration and has successfully built networks that enhance the support available to families and individuals.

On a personal level, Ruth is a parent of neurodivergent adults, which gives her understanding of the challenges and rewards that come with raising children with unique needs. This personal experience fuels her dedication to her work and her empathy for the families she serves. Overall, Ruth’s extensive experience, professional training, and personal insights make her a highly effective and compassionate leader in the charitable sector, particularly in supporting parents, carers, and neurodiverse individuals.

Helen Mansfield

IASS Advisor

Helen has spent most of her adult life supporting Adults with
Learning Disabilities. She was a Home Manager for 7 years before
taking a break to look after her two young children. She has been
working for Reading IASS since April 2015.

Attending details

Please make a booking for each person attending.

On booking you will receive an ‘Order’ email, followed by a ‘Ticket Details’ email containing attendance information.

You need a Zoom account to access this event. You can sign up for free here: https://zoom.us/freesignup/

The Zoom link, meeting ID and passcode are in the ‘Ticket Details’ email. Please check your junk folder, add the event to your calendar, and keep the email safe for use on the days of the event.

Zoom will ask you to sign in to your account, and to register for the event, so please allow time for this before the event starts. You can register at any time after your booking, and we’d suggest to do this as soon as possible so we can provide help if you have any difficulties. You use the same Zoom information for all of the sessions.

We will use the Chat function to allow you to ask questions during the sessions. The events are best viewed on a PC or laptop. Please have the latest version of Zoom installed. You can download the software here: https://zoom.us/download

Please note that you may not record the workshops or take screenshots. This is to maintain confidentiality and privacy for attendees.
