The A Team: Trip to Oxygen Activeplay (‘Peaceful Play’ Session)

Overview

The A Team offers a monthly group for Berkshire girls and young women (age 8/school year 3 to age 18) who are Autistic and/or have ADHD to meet, socialise, have fun and try new things.

The aims of the group are: to build confidence, to try new experiences, to stretch out of their comfort zone, to teach skills for self regulation (e.g. mindfulness), to discuss challenges they may face and how to deal with them (e.g. starting new school, relationships) using different methods (e.g. scenarios/ drama work), to give them an understanding of others reactions and give them coping strategies, and to celebrate difference.

Event outline

The 'Peaceful Play' session includes:

  • Trampolines and giant airbag
  • Obstacle course and activity pit
  • Dodgeball
  • Free entry for a carer

Will be sensitive to:

  • Sound - music turned low
  • Light - no strobe lighting
  • Additional needs friendly

Facilities:

Mary van der Merwe

Parenting, Sleep & Neurodivergent CYP Practitioner

Mary van der Merwe is a dedicated neurodiversity advocate with experience in supporting and training individuals and professionals on Autism and trauma. Within PSC, she leads the A-Team, a group for autistic and ADHD primary and secondary aged girls, providing a space where they can meet other neurodivergent girls and be their authentic selves. As well as this, Mary delivers specialized training programs that emphasize the neurodiversity paradigm, and co-ordinates and delivers specialist 1:1 support. Mary is also a trainer on the National Autism Trainer Programme training CAMHS and the NHS to help improve outcomes for Autistic individuals. Coming from a neurodivergent family herself, Mary’s personal insights and professional expertise drive her commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive environment for all.

Amy Plumer

Paediatric Occupational Therapist

Amy is a paediatric occupational therapist who plays a vital role in PSC by co-facilitating our social group for neurodiverse girls and young women, known as ‘The A Team’, where she helps create a supportive and empowering environment. In addition, Amy facilitates the Sensory Processing and Interoception workshops, using her specialized knowledge to educate and support families and individuals in understanding and managing sensory processing.

Attending details

Booking: Parents/Carers need to book directly with Oxygen Activeplay, complete a waiver form, and stay on site to supervise their children.

You can do so via their website, click the ‘book event now’ button above.

The ticket price includes entry for a carer. Carer must be aged 18 years or over, or are able to provide a carers card if requested.
