From Distress to Security: Supporting Children Through Separation Anxiety – July 2026

Overview

This workshop will help attendees understand how developmental trauma shapes separation anxiety across childhood, adolescence and into adulthood. It will explore how early attachment disruptions can affect safety, trust and ability to tolerate separation from adults.

It will also consider how neurodivergent differences in processing, sensory regulation, and predictability may intersect with trauma to intensify separation-related challenges.
It will go through practical strategies to help caregivers respond with empathy and attunement, support co-regulation and gradually build confidence and autonomy while maintaining secure, trusting relationships.

The workshop is delivered by Naomi Moore, a Play and Creative Arts Therapist, Humanistic Integrative Therapist and Author.

We are very grateful to The National Lottery Community Fund for supporting this workshop.
